Yesterday while I was clearing the grass and weeds away from my old Rose o' Sharon bush I decided to remove the old pipe that had been shoved into the ground (for watering purposes). As I wiggled the pipe to loosen it I began to hear little faint squeeks. Babies! There are babies under the dirt, I thought. So I kept digging until I found a nest down, down, down in the dirt. Two baby gophers! I will have to admit they were cute! Now I can be a real weakling when it comes to tiny squeeky baby things. Anyway, I went into the house to get my camera and when I came back one of the little gophers was gone! I am thinking that mama gopher grabbed and scurried with all her might with her baby down in the never ending tunnel. So I tried to cover the other one (hubby told me I should have destroyed them) back up. I went back into the house to put my camera up, sat down, Lulu went outside and the next thing I knew she was screaming "Sam, has that little gopher in it's mouth"! Nuf said.
I needed a trellis for my climbing yellow rose bush, Ruth. They sure has some nice ones at Lowe's but they want much $$. I found some scrap trim and made my own. I have no idea how long it will last but hey it never hurts to try!
