I am not happy right now. A few days ago I noticed that my chickens had run scared back into their house. Hmmm, what's going on? On closer inspection there were a couple of hens hiding in the blackberry patch. There I also found one of my hens...dead!!! What killed my little red hen? The fence is good all around the pen so I knew nothing got in there. Plus, there would probably been a chicken massacre if dogs or coyotes had gotten in.
Then yesterday I had left the house and when I pulled up in the yard I noticed the chickens were not out pecking and scratching around. Looking closer I noticed a HUGE hawk in my chicken yard! I grabbed a stick (cause that's what you do, I guess) and slowly walked towards it. I got pretty close to it but it flew over the fence and then away! Two hens were hiding in the blackberry patch and there I found another dead hen!
I AM VERY MAD, NOW!! YOU DON'T MESS WITH MY HENS!!

Poor little hennies!! How will you keep this flying monster out?
I don't know! I might have to turn into Annie Oakley. What else can I do? That thing is huge too!
Oh no!! i have this same problem in my backyard and I live in the middle of downtown Phoenix. I throw grapefruits and lemon at them but have considered turning into Annie Oakley too, I just scare them with the pellet gun so they will look for easier pray! I am so sorry about your Henny Penny. That causes the mother bear to rise up...for sure!

Poor little chickies, hope you can figure out a way to keep them safe. Daddy has had chickens forever, not sure what he does in this situation.
