I've been thinking a lot here lately about food. And I think about the fact that there are a lot of people in this world.
People eat food. Lots of food. What would happen if the grocery stores ran out of food? People would go crazy! Right?
That brings me to the the question. Are you the ant or the grasshopper? Do you remember reading the Æsop fable The Ant and the Grasshopper? It goes like this:
In a field one summer’s day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart’s content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.
“Why not come and chat with me,” said the Grasshopper, “instead of toiling and moiling in that way?”
“I am helping to lay up food for the winter,” said the Ant, “and recommend you to do the same.”
“Why bother about winter?” said the Grasshopper; “we have got plenty of food at present.” But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil. When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food, and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. Then the Grasshopper knew:
“IT IS BEST TO PREPARE FOR THE DAYS OF NECESSITY.”
I know that we all that live in America think that everything is always going to be pretty rosey. There is always gonna be plenty of food and water to go around. Come on, pull your head out of the sand!
I hate to be the one to break it to you but THERE'S A STORM COMING!
I know, I know. A lot of you are great farmers. But will your farms feed you and your family when there is no access to food?
So my questions is simple. What are you gonna do about it?

After discovering the Homestead revival blog....I have had my eyes opened so to speak...I dont even know where to start? Any suggestions for someone who has to live in the city right now?
Stacey, there are so many things that you can do but my advice is to not tackle too many changes at first. Do you have a yard? If so, you can plant a small Fall garden.
Grow some garlic! You can put it out right now.(just Google it). You might buy up bargains at your local Farmer's Market and can or freeze for later. Make some jams and jellies! Once you start doing a few of these things it gets in your blood. haha There are so many resources on the internet and local library.
Good luck!
